The Kavakian Empire
A Space Opera by Dawn Ross
Part Two – The Emperor
Chapter 8c
Note from the author: This is just a basic outline of what is going to happen in this part of the chapter. As stated previously, I do not always write out a chapter because of copyright issues and because I want to deter the pirate copying of my story. Another reason I did not write out this part yet is because I am in the process of moving. Hopefully, I’ve written ahead enough that you will still get to read part of this novella every Saturday until I get settled.
The Defender was engaged in a firefight with one of the Tredon ships when Robert got within communications distance. “It’s the Basilisk,” the Defender’s captain reported to Robert on the comm. “Lieutenant Fisker will fill you in.” Robert was not yet close enough to enter the firefight so as his ship approached, he got a full report from Fisker, the Defender’s communication officer. “We arrived in time to attempt to keep the Basilisk from crossing over into their territory.” Robert recognized that they were very close to the Tredon border. “Captain Richforth contacted him to demand the return of our people but they said the prisoners were onboard the emperor’s ship and the emperor’s ship had already crossed over. We tried to get more information but they closed communications and began firing.”
The Defender was losing the fight. Robert’s ship was not operating at full capacity yet, but he jumped in to help defend the Defender as soon as he was in range. Even though it was now two ships against one, the Alliance ships were not faring well.
Then the Basilisk hit the Defender with a crippling blow, which took them out of the fight. Robert was on the defense now. He knew he was dead. Systems were failing. His most effective weaponry was running low on energy.
Then another shot from the Basilisk put the Odyssey out of commission. The Odyssey was a sitting duck. The Basilisk could have taken advantage and completely destroyed both ships, but instead he took the opportunity to leave and cross over into Tredon territory.
